Psalms 52-59

As we continue to read through Psalms together, we learn more and more about God's love for us and how it's reflected in the world.

Psalms 52-59 paint a picture of the unpredictable, harsh reality that existed back in the days of King David.

Even as a faithful follower and servant to God, David finds himself in some difficult situations, some "tight" spots with the people that cross his path.

We can't help but relate on an emotional level to the heartache, distress, and fear in today's reading because our world is full of troubling people and circumstances over which we really have no control.

If we are honest, we all get scared sometimes.  Life can take us to some scary moments and seasons.

And yet, whenever we are in need, God is always the answer.

Our God, our Savior, is both reliable and good.  These words remind us of that...

Surely God is my help;
    the Lord is the one who sustains me.

But I will sing of your strength,
    in the morning I will sing of your love;

for you are my fortress,

    my refuge in times of trouble.
You are my strength, I sing praise to you;
you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.
Psalm 59:16-17
So knowing we can count on God, Psalm 55 tells us what we can do all the time, and especially when things scare us.

Cast your cares on the Lord
    and he will sustain you;

he will never let

    the righteous be shaken.

Relying on our reliable God fills us with a sense of peace and joy we really miss on our own.

A prayer for today-

Dear God,

Thank You so much, Lord, for Your reliable strength and love.  Thank You for always being my refuge.

I cast my cares to You, Lord.  Here they are.  Use my cares for Your good.

[Spend some time naming the circumstances and people on your heart]

You keep my feet from stumbling.  I give myself to You and pray that I may walk in Your light now and forever.

I praise You, my Savior!  Let Your glory be over all the earth!

In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen

Peace of Christ,
